Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother, Rover for Long Division
The Dad, Mom, Sister, Brother,
Rover (dog) math strategy is a mnemonic that can help students use strategy
cues to complete long division problems.
What does Dad, Mom,
Sister, Brother, Rover mean?
1) Dad – D = Divide
2) Mom – M = Multiply
3) Sister – S = Subtract
4) Brother – B = Bring down
5) Rover – R = Remainder
Additionally, I always
use graph paper when teaching long division.
It provides a perfect visual for keeping digits in line.
