Exit Slips

Exit Slips

Exit Slips. sometimes called “Ticket Out the Door,” are a strategy that can actually be used in any subject area.  It is a strategy that requires a student to respond to a question the teacher poses at the end of class.  The question is designed to help the student reflect on what they have learned and express how or what they are thinking about the new content.  This also helps to integrate writing in your classroom and encourages critical thinking.  They can also serve as a form of informal assessment.  Before using Exit Slips, they should be modeled and practiced.

The three categories of Exit Slips are as follows:

1.     Prompts that document learning.
2.     Prompts that document the course of learning.
3.     Prompts to gage the success of learning.

Ideas for prompts:

·        Write one thing you learned today.
·        I didn’t understand…
·        Write a question you have about today’s lesson.
·        Did you like working on stations today?
·        I wish…
·        Please explain more about…

Exit Slips can be created on index cards, sticky notes or simply on a scrap piece of paper.
