PEMDAS ~ Math Strategy
The PEMDAS math strategy
is a mnemonic that can help students follow the “order of operations” in math
problems.
Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally = PEMDAS
What does PEMDAS mean?
P – Parentheses (and
other symbols of inclusion)
E – Exponents
M – Multiplication
D – Division
A – Addition
S - Subtraction
Students follow the order of operations as they are listed in the mnemonic.
Make sure that steps are modeled and that students have plenty of opportunities for practice before being asked to use any strategy independently.
