THINK ~ PAIR ~ SHARE

THINK ~ PAIR ~ SHARE

The Think ~ Pair ~ Share strategy give students who have difficulty decoding words or struggle with comprehension the chance to work with a partner.  It can be used before, during, or after reading.  The following is one version of Think ~ Pair ~ Share.  There are many variations to found on the Internet.

Steps to Think ~ Pair ~ Share:

THINK:
1)     The teacher poses a question or a prompt.
2)     The students are given time to think about the question/prompt.

PAIR:
1)     The students “pair up” and talk about their responses.

SHARE:
1)     The students “pair share” their ideas with the larger group.

This strategy encourages collaboration in the classroom.  This is skill that students will use throughout their lives!
